UMSL Players Earn All-Conference Honors

Morgan a First Team Selection; Hughes a Second Team Selection

St. Louis, Mo. – The Missouri-St. Louis baseball team had two players receive All-Conference honors from the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Junior Josh Morgan (St. Louis, Mo./St. Mary’s) was named a first team all-conference selection as an outfielder and senior third baseman Colby Hughes (Walnut Shade, Mo./Branson) was named a second team all-conference selection.

Morgan led UMSL in nearly every offensive category this year, including a team best .330 batting average on the season while collecting a team high 63 hits. Morgan led the GLVC in triples with seven and tied for the conference lead with nine home runs. He was second in the conference in slugging percentage at .585 and second in the conference with 30 stolen bases while only getting caught six times. Morgan was second on the team in runs scored with 38 and third in RBI with 28, batting most of the season in the leadoff spot. This is the second year in a row Morgan has earned all-conference recognition, being named a second team all-conference selection last year.

Hughes was the everyday third baseman for UMSL this season and was second on the team in hitting with a .313 batting average. He was third on the team with 52 hits and led the Rivermen in RBI with 33. Hughes was third in the GLVC in doubles with 20 on the season, which also ranked fourth on the UMSL all-time list for most doubles in a season. Hughes scored 28 runs on the season and was 11-for-12 in stolen bases on the year. For his career, Hughes has played in 143 games at UMSL, which ranks as the ninth most games played in UMSL history. He also ranks fourth in career doubles at UMSL with 40. This is the first all-conference honors for Hughes.
