Mercer Named GLVC Player of the Week

Senior Led UMSL to 5-1 Record on the Week

St. Louis, Mo. – UMSL senior outfielder Jonathan Mercer (Sullivan, Mo./Sullivan) was named GLVC Player of the Week by the conference, becoming the second straight UMSL player to earn that honor after Scott Sanders (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway North) earned the award last week.

Mercer led UMSL to a 5-1 record in six games last week, hitting .440 (11-for-25) with eight runs scored and 10 RBIs. He started the week by knocking in the game-winning run with an RBI double in the bottom of the last inning in a 2-1 win against SIU Edwardsville, and in the second game went 4-for-5 with three runs and three RBIs against the Cougars. Over the weekend, he helped UMSL to a doubleheader sweep of Lewis on Saturday, going a combined 5-for-9 in the two games. Mercer was 3-for-4 with two runs and four RBIs in the first game, including two doubles, and was 2-for-5 with one run and two RBIs in the second game.

On the season, Mercer leads the Rivermen in hitting with a .359 batting average and has a team best 51 hits on the year. He also leads the team with 37 runs scored and 13 doubles, and is second on the team with 35 RBIs.

Mercer and the Rivermen begin a big home stretch over the next couple of weeks as UMSL will play the next 12 conference games at home over a 12-day stretch, beginning with a home doubleheader on Wednesday against Quincy at 1 pm.
