Logan Hughes Named Academic All-District

Senior Named First Team Academic Selection

St. Louis, Mo. – Missouri-St. Louis baseball player Logan Hughes (Walnut Shade, Mo./Branson) was named to the CoSIDA 2004 Academic All-District VII Baseball team. He becomes the third UMSL student-athlete this school year to earn academic all-district honors, and the second student-athlete to earn first team honors. Hughes will now be eligible to become an Academic All-American, which will be voted on at a later date.

Hughes was the starting third baseman for UMSL and batted fourth in the order all year. He was a GLVC Second Team All-Conference selection at third base after hitting .345 on the season, third best on the team, and led the Rivermen with 70 hits, six home runs and 56 RBIs. His 56 RBIs tied the school record for most RBIs in a single season, matching the record he set last year. Hughes scored 39 runs on the season and had 12 doubles with a slugging percentage of .517. Hughes started off the season with a bang, hitting safely in each of the first 14 games of the season.

During his two-year career at UMSL, Hughes moved into seventh in the school records for most career doubles with 34, and is sixth in career RBIs with 112. Over the last two season with Hughes, the Rivermen have had tremendous team success as well, winning the GLVC Championship and advancing to the NCAA Regionals last season, and finishing second in the GLVC Tournament this year. The team had a combined 69-38-1 record during the two years with Hughes.

Hughes adds to his list of academic honors while at UMSL, as he was a GLVC Academic All-Conference selection last year and was named the 2003 GLVC Baseball Scholar Athlete of the Year. Hughes is a physical education major and carries a 3.85 GPA. He is the third UMSL student-athlete to receive academic all-district honors this year, joining volleyball player Gillian Falknor, who was a second team selection, and softball player Kristen Economon who was a first team selection this spring.
