UMSL Drops Two at Quincy Rivermen Lose 13 Inning Game in Opener Quincy, Ill. – The UMSL baseball team dropped a conference doubleheader at Quincy on Wednesday, including a heartbreaking 6-5 loss in 13 innings in the opening game. In the opener, each team scored one run in the first inning and the Hawks added three in the fourth inning to lead 4-1. The Rivermen then charged back in the top of the fifth with four runs. Logan Hughes started the scoring with an RBI single and Colby Hughes then had a two-run single to tie the game at 4-4. Scott Sanders gave UMSL the lead with an RBI single to score Logan Hughes as the Rivermen led 5-4. Quincy came right back in the bottom half of the inning with a single run to tie the game at 5-5, where the score would remain until the 13th inning. UMSL had a couple of chances in the later innings, but the Hawks held on and scored in the bottom of the 13th inning for a 6-5 win. In
the second game, UMSL got on the board in the top of the first as Jonathan
Mercer singled, stole second and third, and came around
to score on an error for a 1-0 lead. Quincy again responded with a run
in the bottom of the first to tie the game at 1-1. In the third inning,
the Hawks blasted out to a big lead, scoring eight runs in the inning
for the 9-1 victory.
