Allendale, Mich. – The UMSL baseball team saw their season come to an end after suffering a 7-4 loss to Indianapolis in the consolation round of the NCAA North Central Regional. The season ended the year for the Rivermen, who finished with a 39-15 record.

Indianapolis grabbed the first lead of the game with a single run in the bottom of the first inning, but UMSL came right back the next two innings. In the second, Scott Davis (High Ridge, Mo./Northwest) reached on an error and then scored on an RBI single by Doug Wiles (Farmington, Mo./Farmington) to tie the game at 1-1. The Rivermen would then grab the lead in the third as Tony Grana (Ballwin, Mo./Lafayette) walked to lead off the inning and scored when Logan Hughes (Walnut Shade, Mo./Branson) beat out an infield hit, giving UMSL a 2-1 lead.

UMSL would add to that lead in the top of the fifth inning, as Jim Reiter (Troy, Mo./Troy Buchanan) got a one-out double and moved to third on a base hit by Bryan Weiss (St. Peters, Mo./St. Francis Howell). Logan Hughes came up and roped a double to left center, scoring Reiter for the third UMSL run, but Weiss was thrown out at the plate in a close call. Indianapolis would then get two runs in the bottom of the fifth on a two-run single by Matt Guarnieri to tie the game at 3-3 after five innings.
