| UMSL's Logan Hughes Named GLVC Baseball Scholar Athlete of the Year Hughes is Second UMSL Student-Athlete to Receive Conference Academic Award St. Louis, Mo. – Missouri-St. Louis junior Logan Hughes (Walnut Shade, Mo./Branson) was named Great Lakes Valley Conference Baseball Scholar Athlete of the Year by the league office. Hughes was the starting rightfielder for the Rivermen this past year, helping lead the team to one of the best seasons in school history. Hughes hit .312 on the season, going 58-for-186, and led the team and the conference with 56 RBIs in 53 games on the season. He also led the conference and the team in doubles with 21 on the season, and added one triple and five home runs. Hughes scored 36 runs on the season, with a slugging percentage of .516 and an on base percentage of .427. He drew 28 walks on the season while striking out just 21 times and drew a team high 13 hit by pitches. Hughes helped lead the Rivermen to one of the best seasons in school history as UMSL recorded a school record 39 wins on the season, finishing at 39-15, and took first place in the GLVC regular season with a 23-7 conference record. In addition, UMSL hosted and won the GLVC Tournament, capturing the school’s first ever GLVC Championship in any sport. Hughes
was just as successful in the classroom. A physical education major,
Hughes became the second UMSL student-athlete
ever to win this honor, following men’s tennis player T.J.
Schaefer, who won the award last year.
