Grana Earns GLVC Player of the Week Honors Grana is Second Rivermen to Earn Conference Honors St. Louis, Mo. – UMSL second baseman Tony Grana (Ballwin, Mo./Lafayette) was named Great Lakes Valley Conference baseball Player of the Week today by the GLVC office. Grana becomes the second UMSL baseball player to earn player of the week honors in as many weeks as Jim Reiter (Troy, Mo./Troy Buchanan) was honored last week. Grana helped the 10th-ranked Rivermen to a 3-1 record on the week, including wins by scores of 17-3, 17-6 and 14-4. He hit .714 in the four games (10-for-14) and of his ten hits, Grana had four doubles, walked four times, scored seven runs and had three RBIs. His slugging percentage for the week was 1.000 and he had an on base percentage of .800 while going 4-for-4 in stolen bases. In addition to the performance at the plate, Grana had 12 assists in the field while making no errors. In the first game of the week, Grana went 4-for-4 from the plate while tying a school record with three doubles in one game. For
the season, Grana is leading UMSL in hitting with a .391 average and
a team high 25 hits in his 18 games played. He also leads the team in
doubles with nine and is third on the team in runs scored with 19. On
the season, UMSL is 16-3 overall and is currently ranked 10th in the
country.
