UMSL Late Rally Falls Short at SIUE Rivermen Fall 8-7 to Cougars Edwardsville, Ill. - The UMSL baseball team saw a late rally fall short on Wednesday, falling 8-7 at SIU Edwardsville in a GLVC matchup. The Rivermen saw a five-run eighth inning come up one run shy in the loss as UMSL fell to 16-4 on the season. UMSL got off to a quick start, scoring two runs in the opening inning for an early lead. The Rivermen scored both runs in the opening inning with two outs, getting RBI singles from Scott Davis and Jason Barron. UMSL held that lead for the first three innings until SIUE got its bats going in the fourth. The Cougars scored four times in the fourth inning, getting a two-run single from Jason Kessler. SIUE added a single run in the fifth on a solo homer from Brad Scott for a 5-1 lead. SIUE would add three more runs in the seventh inning as Nick Seibert hit a three-run homer to give the Cougars an 8-2 lead. The Rivermen would charge back in the eighth inning, scoring five runs in the inning to make it a one-run game. Scott Sanders started the scoring with a solo home run. Jim Reiter then got a sacrifice fly with bases loaded to plate another run, an another run would score on a pass ball. With runners on second and third, Logan Hughes then smashed a double to center, scoring two more runs and making it an 8-7 game. UMSL could not get another rally going in the ninth inning, dropping the first of two games this week to SIUE. UMSL
fell to 16-4 on the season, and 5-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
The Rivermen will host SIUE in another single, nine-inning game on Thursday
beginning at 2 pm.
