The game was the final tuneup for the Rivermen before this weekend’s GLVC Tournament, which will be hosted by UMSL and will begin on Thursday, May 8. Quincy got on the board early, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning off UMSL starter Matt Kueny (Boonville, Mo./Boonville). UMSL charged back in the fourth to briefly regain the lead. In that sixth inning, Logan Hughes led off with a double and Jason Barron (St. Louis, Mo./Hazelwood East) hit an RBI single for a 4-3 UMSL lead. Scott Miller (St. Louis, Mo./Lindbergh) then brought home Barron with an RBI single for the second run of the inning and a 5-3 lead for the Rivermen. Barron brought home two more runs with a two-run single in the seventh before the Hawks got a single run in the bottom of the seventh to make it a 7-4 game. The Rivermen then blew the game open in the eighth with a four-run inning, ending the Quincy hopes of a comeback. Jim Reiter (Troy, Mo./Troy Buchanan) had an RBI single to start the scoring as UMSL cruised to an 11-4 win from there. Matt Kueny got the win, going 5.0 innings and giving up three runs on seven hits while striking out two. Steven McCoy (Potosi, Mo./Potosi) would pick up the save, closing the game by going 3.0 innings while giving up one run on one hit and struck out two. Logan Hughes went 3-for-4 on the day with two runs and two RBIs and Jason Barron went 2-for-5 with three runs scored and four RBIs in the win. The
Rivermen, currently ranked 13th in the country, are now 36-13 on the
