UMSL Falls to Lincoln 10-9 Rivermen Stumble in Non-Conference Game Jefferson City, Mo. – The UMSL baseball team stumbled in a non-conference game at Lincoln on Monday afternoon, falling 10-9 to the Blue Tigers. The Rivermen led 6-1 at one point in the game, but Lincoln scored seven runs in the last three innings for the win. UMSL got off to a quick start with five runs in the first two innings. Bryan Weiss (St. Peters, Mo./Francis Howell North) hit a solo homer and Scott Davis (High Ridge, Mo./Northwest) had an RBI single in the first inning. In the second, Jim Reiter (Troy, Mo./Troy Buchanan) had an RBI double and Logan Hughes (Walnut Shade, Mo./Branson) tripled home two runs in the inning. Lincoln would add a single run in the third and the Rivermen came back to get a run in the top of the fifth on an RBI single by Tony Grana (Ballwin, Mo./Lafayette) for a 6-1 UMSL lead. The Blue Tigers would score single runs in the fifth and sixth to cut into the lead before the Rivermen added to their cushion in the seventh, the first scoring on a throwing error and the second on a sacrifice fly by Tony Grana as UMSL led 8-3. Lincoln then came charging back, scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh and after a single UMSL run in the top of the eighth, the Blue Tigers again put up three runs in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at 9-9. Lincoln then got an unearned run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth for the 10-9 win. UMSL
is now 26-7 on the season and will host Lincoln on Wednesday in a rematch
before a big weekend of conference play. The Rivermen will travel to
play a big weekend series at Indianapolis over the weekend with a doubleheader
on Friday and Saturday.
