Some ways that faculty have had success in meeting changes in their fields include the following:

  • Plan with colleagues to modify existing programs to meet new needs. Unless the program is so different that it requires a different name, no approvals are necessary. Name changes are usually approved easily.
  • Programs and options are more likely to be approved if there is a demand for them. Document the needs with market analyses, support letters from outside organizations, and logs of inquiries.
  • While building the case for a new program, plan an emphasis area with a certificate. Program changes are much more likely to be approved. As enrollment increases, the need statement will become stronger for a new program proposal.
