University graduates are expected to think critically and communicate ideas effectively. Faculty at UMSL defined critical thinking when they designed the General Education program. Those guidelines are currently being reviewed but continue to serve as the basis for all courses that are designated as satisfying general education requirements.

After programs submitted learning outcomes, it was clear that undergraduate majors continue to develop the skills and knowledge in the general education document as well as teaching discipline-specific knowledge and skills. Some examples include the following majors:
