MAUI-Utrecht Network Exchange Program


This program is part of the MAUI-Utrecht Exchange and is open to students from member institutions only. Interested students should contact their local study abroad coordinator regarding the application/placement process and for additional information.

Number of spaces available for Utrecht students in 2009/2010 (in semesters) No preset limit. Would prefer institutions contact OU directly to confirm space availability.
Areas of study open for Utrecht Network students Business, engineering, law, languages and linguistics,architecture, physical sciences (e.g. geology, geography, botany, chemistry), social sciences (e.g. economics, history, psychology ), education, mathematics, and more. Graduate programs are available in almost every discipline and are open to exchange students. Undergraduate exchange students may take graduate course work with faculty or department permission.
Areas restricted to prior bilateral agreements between the exchanging departments or faculties None
Areas of study not open for Utrecht Network students Any disciplines taught on the Health Sciences Campus in Oklahoma City and in the College of Continuing Education.   Enrollment in Business courses can be difficult because of size limitations in classrooms. Economics courses often fill up early and the department is strict about math a strong background.
What graduate programs are open to exchange students?  What are the conditions? Can advanced undergraduate exchange students take graduate level courses?

Graduate course NOT OPEN to exchange students are the MBA program and, often, economics courses. 

Advanced undergraduates are frequently allowed to take graduate courses after demonstrating an adequate academic background.

Sessions are held at beginning of each semester, during the week before classes begin. Exact dates available one semester in advance.
No charge for orientation.

Language test certificate required? No TOEFL required for exchange students.
Preparatory language course for new exchange students Available through the OU Center for English as a Second Language BUT NOT AS PART OF THE RECIPROCAL EXCHANGE AGREEMENT. Six-week session approximately $1,400. More information available at http://www.occe.ou.edu/cafe/cesl
Internships available Not available for exchange students.

Housing options Catered residence halls and university owned self-catering flats.

Allowed ONLY if insurance is:

  1. Backed by the home country government  -- or --
  2. Provided to the student as a dependent of the parent(s) and through the parent’s employer
It is difficult to meet the requirements for waiving the insurance. INSURANCE MUST MEET ALL U.S. DEPT. OF STATE REGULATIONS FOR STUDENTS ON A J-1 VISA.  See letter sent to all exchange students.
Health facilities at the university Yes. Goddard Health Center has physicians, lab facilities, counseling, etc available at low cost for students.
