The Partnership 
This
program is part of the MAUI-Utrecht Network Exchange and is open to students
from member institutions only. Interested students should contact
their local study abroad coordinator regarding the application/placement
process and for additional information. Application deadlines
for all MAUI-Utrecht Network programs, including fall semester, winter
semester, or academic year abroad, is in late February/early March. Spring semester
placements may be available after the deadline: contact your Study
Abroad Coordinator.
The University-Université
des Sciences et Technologies de Lille
In
France, universities are divided into smaller entities which group
the faculties of ascertain area of studies. Each area receives a
number: I = Natural Sciences, II = Arts and Languages, Ill = Law,
Economics and Political Sciences, for example.
The University of Lille I is a Sciences and Technology orientated higher education establishment, which also includes the Faculty of Geography and the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences. The University of Lille was founded in 1562 by the Spanish and became French in 1667. It became established in the heart of Lille in 1854, then in 1964 it moved to its current site in Villeneuve d'Ascq.

The USTL is one of the great French universities in the fields of research and training. The University of Li lIe I is situated in the north of France, within easy access of the ports of France and the main motor way system which runs through Europe. The University of Lille I has a teaching and research staff of 1,000 and a student population of roughly 23,000.

The Office for International Relations is responsible for MAUI students during their stay at the USTL.
Location 
Located
in the heart of Northern Europe, Villeneuve d'Ascq has all the assets
to become a technological centre for Europe. The geographical location
of the town favours the exchange of students and ideas. Villeneuve
d'Ascq is directly linked by the VAL 'metro' to the high speed train
of Lille .
Villeneuve d'Ascq is a pleasant town to live in and to study in. As far as leisure time is concerned, the town has 100 recreation centres which offer its 43,000 students miscellaneous sporting possibilities.
