Map of England

What is it like there?
Lancaster University is a comprehensive university located near the Lake District in England and only a three-hour train ride from London and Edinburgh. The university has 10,000 undergraduate and graduate students and is known for its range of teaching and research activities. The university has a very diverse student population. Ethnic minorities are strongly represented and students with disabilities are welcomed. There are 100 different clubs and societies and a full program of drama, music, and film. The campus also offers many other services, including banks, shops, travel agent, post office, bookshops, health care center, counseling center and a variety of cafeterias, snack bars, and pubs.

The city of Lancaster is a short distance away and offers all the conveniences of a small city: restaurants, banks, entertainment, shops and specialty stores. The city's charm and history combine with its friendly atmosphere to make it a popular place for students.

What will I study?
Lancaster University is a comprehensive university with the possibility of courses in many subject areas. Almost every major at UMSL is represented in the curriculum. Exchange students are fully integrated into the university: you will be attending class and living with Brits and students from throughout the world.

What is the language of instruction?
English.

Where will I live?
American students are randomly assigned to various colleges (residences), with usually no more than two American students on any one floor. The residence halls are modern and vary in style and size. Most of the rooms are single with sinks. All rooms are grouped around communal lounge and kitchen areas where students can prepare snacks and meals. UM-St. Louis students are guaranteed a room on campus if they apply by the deadline. Most rooms are "ensuite" meaning you have your own shower, sink, and toilet. A limited number of rooms with shared facilities are available at a lower price. Additional housing info.

When can I go?
Students may study at Lancaster for the fall, winter, or academic year. As in many British universities, Lancaster’s academic year consists of three terms, called Michaelmas (Fall), Lent (Winter), and Summer. Each term is ten weeks long and is separated by a four-week vacation. Students may attend Lancaster University for Michaelmas only, Lent & Summer only, or the entire academic year. It is preferable that students attend for Lent & Summer (January - June) or the academic year.

What are the eligibility requirements?
Students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 and be a junior or senior.
