*Special Notes About this Program: Kansas State University ranks as one of the nation’s “cutting edge schools,” according to a guidebook that pinpoints today’s hottest majors and the innovative colleges that offer them in the United States. Founded in 1863, K-State is a state institution that enrolls more than 23.800 students. A majority of the students are from Kansas and the Midwest, with students from over 90 different countries. There are many student organizations on campus including International Buddies which is a program that is designed to assist incoming international students with their transition to Manhattan and Kansas. It gives participants an opportunity to learn about other languages and cultures.
Research facilities on 4000 acres of land include: a TRIGA Mark II pulsing nuclear reactor, atomic accelerator, environmental testing laboratory, feed and flour mills, a bakery, a joint program with the American Institute of Baking, greenhouses, and animal and poultry buildings. Of special interest is the Konza Prairie tall-grass preserve for environmental and ecological research. K-State is within commuting distance of the Truman and Eisenhower Presidential libraries.
Located in Manhattan, KS, 120 miles from Kansas City and 50 miles from Topeka, the state capital. Tuttle Creek Lake, located 5 miles from campus, provides recreational opportunities. “The Little Apple” is a classic college town complete with football and basketball stadiums, zoo, mall parks, and recreational trail that circles the city.

What graduate programs are open to exchange students?  What are the conditions? Can advanced undergraduate exchange students take graduate level courses? Yes, they are open to exchange students.  Undergraduate exchange students would be able to take graduate level courses on a case-by-case basis.

-Meals Off-Campus: Housing costs will vary if student chooses to live off-campus. Approximately: $400-$500 for housing, $100-$200 for meals (less expensive housing is sometimes found, but not guaranteed)
-Books -Books:  on average, $300 per semester
-Local Transportation -Local transportation:  No public transportation is available in Manhattan. The International Office lends bicycles to students, when available. Cost for a bike is usually $100 or less to purchase a decent bicycle. We also have a free shuttle service to take students shopping once a week.
Health Insurance Health insurance: around $450 a semester
Personal Expenses Personal Expenses Personal expenses usually run beween $250-300 per month depending on each student's style of living. This could be more or less depending on travel.
Additional fees to pay Some classes, e.g. Art, have materials fees (depends on course)
