| Language test certificate required? | Undergraduate: Language evaluation by sending institution. Graduate: TOEFL before arrival - Required scores vary by department. |
| Preparatory language course for new exchange students | There is no special language preparatory course offered before the term. Students may take the summer intensive language program from offered by the Center for English as a Second Language. Check fees and details at http://cesl.siuc.edu/ There are courses in English, particularly writing, for international students offered as regular classes during the term at no extra cost. |
| Internships available | Internships are arranged through the sponsoring departments. International students may participate subject to the Immigration and Naturalization Service time limits for practical training. |
| Student jobs available/allowed? | Students may work on campus up to 20 hours per week although we do not recommend this for students in their first semester. |
| Housing assistance | We will apply for space in the university residence halls as soon as the admission application is processed. Off-campus housing must be arranged after arrival with assistance from International Students and Scholars office. |
| Housing options | On-campus residence halls - In most cases, students are housed two to a room with a shared WC/shower. Utilities and meals are included. This is the only realistic possibility for semester students. Year students may use off-campus housing although many contracts will be for 12 months. Students will be responsible for all utilities and food in off-campus housing.. |
