Monterrey / Mayan Route Summer Program

For those students interested in learning more about ancient cultures, such as the Mayan, we have a great traveling program that will take place in south region of Mexico . Take this opportunity to learn about a place full of traditions, folklore and historical sites.

The itinerary: The program will start in the city of Tuxtla Gutiérrez in the state of Chiapas and will continue to the cities of Villahermosa , Palenque , San Cristobal de las Casas , Campeche , Mérida , Playa del Carmen and an optional long weekend trip to the beautiful beaches of Cancún.

Courses:
Students will take 3 or six classes. Courses offered are:
-Spanish Language (basic or intermediate)
-Mexican Culture (taught in English)

Housing:
Housing will be in hotels in the various cities visited on this program.

Dates: June 1 - June 27, 2008 (optional excursion to Cancun June 27-30)

Estimated Costs:

UMSL Tuition: $715.80 - $1,431.60 (Depends if 3 or 6 credits are taken. Subject to change.)
Program Fee* + transport to class venue: $1650
Airfare: $600 (estimate)
Mandatory Health Insurance: $38
Meals and Personal Expenses: $600 (depends on personal habits)
Optional excursions: $600

*Program fee includes housing, transport to and from the airport, in-city transportation, included field trips and excursions.


Application Process:
Students will need to submit the following documents to the Study Abroad Office. Forms are available online or in the Study Abroad Office, 261 MSC. Deadline is February 22.

1. UMSL Study Abroad Application Form
2. One letter of reference
3. Transcript (Use study abroad transcript request form)
4. Scholarship application and scholarship essay

Upon your acceptance to the program, additional forms will be mailed to you. You will need to complete and return them to the Study Abroad Office in a timely manner.

Mandatory Pre-Departure Orientation:
All UM-St. Louis students who study abroad are required to attend pre-departure orientation. This session will cover registration and financial aid, credit transfer, travel, health and safety topics, culture shock, and much more. Details and location.
