Lyon Education Exchange
The Lyon Educational Exchange Program consists of an observational and participatory study visit to French schools and an introduction to the French K-12 educational system. Students will spend weekdays at a French elementary school and will be expected to prepare and present some lessons, such as English language lessons, topics on American culture or geography, etc. The schools in Lyon enjoy having the American presence in their classroom. Preference will be given to education and French majors. Some familiarity with the French language is highly desirable, but the program is open to all majors and French is not a prerequisite.
Students have the option of staying with a host family or in a student residence. Homestay includes 2 meals per day. All host families can speak some English. Students selecting the host family option must be ready and willing to participate in French family life. Staying with a host family provides an amazing opportunity to immerse yourself in the French culture. Those students seeking more independence or who do not want to interact with a family should consider the dormitory.
Generally, students spend two weeks with one family and school, then move to a new family and school for the remaining two weeks. This allows students to experience different types of schools, living enviroments, and provides a richer experience.
Lyon is a beautiful city, full of cultural and gastronomical activities and is centrally located in France.
This program is open to graduate and undergraduate students, and is limited to four participants. Credit earned will be for the Professional Internship Course: EL ED 4989, MID ED 4989, or SEC ED 4989.
