ITESM Language and Culture Courses

ITESM Language and Culture Courses in Mexico

The ITESM network offers Spanish language and Latin American culture and business classes taught in both English and Spanish. Students of all Spanish levels can benefit from these courses. Students may attend a five-week session at the Monterrey campus. Programs also available in Guadalajara and Cuernavaca, but course offerings are more limited.

Monterrey

The City: City of Mountains; City of Business. Internationally known as the "City of Mountains," Monterrey is the third largest city in Mexico and is located 175 miles south of the US border. Monterrey offers many outdoor activities, including climbing, mountain biking, Huasteca Canyon excursions, Garcia Caves tours, Horsetail Waterfall, historical towns, and more.

Dates: May 26 - July 8, 2009

Courses and Credit: UM-St. Louis students will attend ITESM as exchange students and therefore will pay UMSL tuition and earn six credits. Courses are available in Spanish language, business, and culture. Course listings available at the Monterrey website. Please note that not all courses will be offered during the summer.

Housing: Students may live in a campus dormitory or with a host family. The cost for a dormitory is approximately $880 and does not include meals. The home stay is approximately $820 and includes 3 meals per day.

UMSL Tuition: $1,546.80 (6 credits. 2008 rate; summer 2009 rate TBA in April.)

Application Process:
Students will need to submit the following documents to the Study Abroad Office. Forms are available online or in the Study Abroad Office, 261 MSC. Deadline is February 23.

1. UMSL Study Abroad Application Form
2. One letter of reference
3. Transcript (Use study abroad transcript request form)
4. Scholarship application and scholarship essay

Upon your acceptance to the program, additional forms will be mailed to you. You will need to complete and return them to the Study Abroad Office in a timely manner.

Mandatory Pre-Departure Orientation:
All UM-St. Louis students who study abroad are required to attend pre-departure orientation. This session will cover registration and financial aid, credit transfer, travel, health and safety topics, culture shock, and much more. Details and location.
