Study Spanish in Barcelona

The University of Missouri-St. Louis offers a two-week long Spanish language immersion program in one of the largest cultural hubs in Spain.  With its wealth of unique historic architecture and rich cultural heritage, Barcelona is an ideal location to immerse yourself in your Spanish language studies and to gain firsthand knowledge of the society and culture of Spain.

Students will take classes from May 18-29 at the Institut Nord-America (www.ien.es).  The program will also include tours of museums and major sites of interests, include visits to the works of Antoni Gaudi.       

Housing:  Please note that we will be reserving doubles at Residencia Agora and sharing a room with another student of the same gender.

Credit:
Three credit hours will be earned for one of the following courses, depending on student's level:*

Spanish 2101 - Intermediate Spanish Language and Culture
Spanish 2171 - Spanish Conversation and Pronunciation
Spanish 3271 - Advanced Spanish Conversation

*Prerequisite: Spanish 1002 or equivalent

Dates:
Teaching takes place May 18 - 29, 2009
Students should depart for Barcelona on May 16 to arrive on May 17.

Estimated Costs:
Educational Fees: $773.40 (3 credits. 2008 rate; summer 2009 rate TBA in April.)
OR Non-Credit Fee of $650

Program Fee*: $1700
Airfare estimate: $1,250
Additional Meals and Personal Expenses: $750 (depends on personal habits)

*includes Instruction at Institut Nord-America, books and materials, accommodation and two meals a day at Residencia Agora, transit card, health insurance, tours, museum entrances, and farewell dinner; does not include roundtrip airfare, passport costs, some meals, and personal expenses.

*The program fees were calculated at 1.5 rate (1EUR=1.5USD).  UMSL reserves the right to revise the program fee if there are fluctuations in the exchange rate.  Participants are responsible for any increase in rates.

Application Process:
Students will need to submit the following documents to the Study Abroad Office. Forms are available online or in the Study Abroad Office, 261 MSC. Application and non-refundable deposit of $500 are due by February 23, 2009. Additional documents and remaining program fee ($1200) are due by March 20, 2009. Tuition ONLY may be billed to your UMSL student account; the program fees are payable by check or money order.

Mandatory Pre-Departure Orientation:
