Student Teaching Program in Seoul, South Korea
The College of Education (COE) at the University of Missouri-St. Louis and Korea University (KU) have established an exciting student teaching exchange program and partnership. A maximum of five students will be accepted for the program. This program is ONLY open to students enrolled in teacher certification programs. Applications will be available in 155 Marillac, the Advising Office, and/or from Dr. Alina Slapac, 367 Marillac or slapaca@umsl.edu.
*Please note: This program is facilitated by the College of Education. If you are interested in applying, please first visit their website and read their information. Then, complete and return to the College of Education their "Application For Study Abroad" form located on their website. They will process your application, select and "Accept" participants and instruct you on everything you need to do.
After you have been "Accepted", you will need to complete and return these forms to the College of Education by their specified deadline:

One of the top universities in Korea, UM-St. Louis students have a variety of options at KU. The beautiful campus is located in Seoul, which makes a great environment for learning the language and immersing yourself in Korean culture.

What is it like there?
South Korea is a beautiful country with inspiring mountains. Korea University is the largest private institution of higher education in the country and has a strong reputation for quality education. Korea University is located on a breath-taking campus in Seoul. Koreans place an important emphasis on developing the whole person, so the campus is filled with parks, hiking paths, and recreation centers to fulfill the body as well as the mind.
When can I go?
Students may go to KU for the fall semester. The Fall Semester from August 23 to the middle of December.
What will I study?
Students accepted for student teaching in Korea will enroll for twelve credit hours of student teaching, in a section especially established for this program. Student teaching will begin in Korea in September, following four weeks of preparation in St. Louis. Student teachers will be supervised by both faculty from Korea University and from the University of Missouri-St. Louis College of Education.
The goals and activities include:
1) UMSL student teachers will enhance their multicultural awareness;
2) UMSL student teachers will learn different methodologies Korean teachers use;
3) UMSL student teachers will learn how to collaborate with cooperating teachers, parents, and KU supervisor(s);
4) UMSL student teachers will learn Korean public school curriculum and daily school
operation;
5) UMSL student teachers will learn Korean culture, history, and language through weekly cultural professional development programs.

How much does it cost?
When you participate in a UM-St. Louis exchange program, like KU, you continue to pay UMSL tuition and may use your financial aid. It's recommended for all Study Abroad students that you visit the Financial Aid advisor for Study Abroad in the Financial Aid Office, 327 MSC, 516-6394 for more specific information relating to your personal financial aid package and eligibilty.

Please note: Students in the Korea student teaching program receive free housing in the International dorm. They also receive approximately $1000 towards the costs of airfare from the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education. Students also receive a stipend while in Korea, approximately $400/month, as well as a small amount of money for cultural events.

2 Students in the Korea student teaching program receive free housing in the International dorm. Comparison cost is based on single room at UMSL.
