Profiler

Note: Before you begin, print a copy of the Guide to the Profiler Survey.
In order to obtain entry level technology skills of you and your students, we would like to have all students and faculty participating in the PT3 project take the online Profiler Survey of Instructional Technology Skills.

The Profiler Survey consists of 42 questions directed at computer skills and the use of technology in the classroom. The instructor can use the individual results of the survey to group their students for technology related projects, thus insuring that each group contains at least one member who is technologically savvy.

The Guide for Using the Profiler is in the Tools section of this binder. You will be able to pick up copies of the Guide for all of your students in the TLC. During the first or second week of the semester, you will want to set aside 15-20 minutes of class time for this survey. If you are not in a computer classroom you will need to schedule a time in the TLC for your class to come in and take the survey. If you think you will need assistance, please mention that when you reserve your time slot in the Center. Everyone taking the survey will want to record his or her login name and PIN number on the Guide for Using Profiler. They will need this information to retake the survey at the end of the semester.

Not only is the Profiler a useful tool for the instructor, it is also a useful tool for the PT3 project staff. The results of these surveys can be displayed as individual results, class results and total results for all users. The main goal of the PT3 project is to better equip our students to use and integrate technology in the classroom. The Profiler is invaluable in helping us track our progress.

Specific instructions for taking the Profiler are included in your PT3 notebook. If you have any questions about the Profiler, please direct them to the PT3 Listserv, or contact Jan or Joe.
