Physics and Astronomy at UMSL is composed of 6 full-time faculty and 1 adjunct faculty who are dedicated to research (PDF 111KB) and/or teaching. In addition, we have the Chancellor Emeritus and three Emeritus or Founders Professors as Department members. We offer B.A. and B.S. degrees in physics with emphasis areas in astrophysics, general physics, engineering physics, and biophysics. The Department has research emphasis areas in astrophysics, materials physics, and biophysics.

Undergraduates in our program can take advantage of small class sizes and numerous research opportunities with faculty. Research stipends for the summer and academic year are available through the NASA/Missouri Space Grant Consortium. Financial aid is available to outstanding students majoring in physics through various awards and scholarships. 

UMSL is also home the Schwartz Observatory located on North Campus. The observatory hosts viewings through the telescope on selected evenings, open to all.
