On behalf of the Weeks of Welcome Committee and Office of New Student Programs, I would like to extend an invitation to be part of the Weeks of Welcome (WOW) experience.
The Weeks of Welcome (WOW) program is designed to connect the UMSL community together by providing educational, entertaining, cultural and creative programming to enhance the UMSL Experience for new and returning students.
In support of this tradition, we are asking for your participation in a few of the Weeks of Welcome events as your schedule permits. Please reference below the “snapshots” of ways YOU can help welcome new students to the UMSL community.
WOW Crew Leader: APPLY by Friday, April 6 at noon CST
To be a Weeks of Welcome Crew Leader, known as a WOW Crew Leader.
Interested to join the UMSL tradition of welcoming our incoming first year, and transfer students?
Apply to be a volunteer today for you to be able to assist with:
- Triton Take-Off Weekend with leading a group of 10-50 students with another WOW Crew Leader:
- Explore STL WOW Adventures
- Serve as a positive role-model & impact live
Compensation: transferable skills, t-shirts, meals, giveaways, & move-in to Oak or Villa Hall early
Here are a few requirements of applicants:
1. Attended one full semster at the University of Missouri-St. Louis (minimu of 12 credit hours) and have at least a minimum of a 2.25 overall GPA at time of application submission
2. No student may apply for or hold a WOW Crew position while on academic or disciplinary probation with the university.
3. Applicants must: (a) complete an application, (b) schedule to attend an in-person interview
Upon Hired attend the following Dates:
Trainings: Sunday, April 22, 2018 (noon-4pm); Wednesday, August 15, 2018 (6pm-10pm); Thursday, August 16, 2018 (11am-4pm)
Triton Take-Off Weekend: Friday, August 17 to Tuesday, August 21, 2018 (shifts times will be given to students at Trainings, will work various shifts, but not all day)

EVENT SUBMISSIONS FOR WOW BOOKLET EVENT CALENDAR SPRING 2018
Deadline for all event submissions: Monday, December 18, 2017
All event submissions will be used to include in a large calendar publication that will be printed and distributed to the new students during the first few days of classes. They will also be available on the WOW website page at www.umsl.edu/WOW.
VOLUNTEER SIGN-UP FALL SEMESTER
To volunteer for Move-In, Serendipity Sendoff, or Help-A-Triton.
Deadline to Volunteer: currently closed
What do you do: We need all the help we can from our campus colleagues to make our students feel welcomed during a busy time of year in the Fall semester. Depending which shift you sign-up for you might be doing some or all of these items: assisting moving in students on-campus to their Residence Halls, answering questions at tables around campus, or cheering on students at the Serendipity Sendoff UMSL Campus Tradition.
WELCOME MOVE-IN CREW FALL SEMESTER
(Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at Mansion Hill Apartments—New and Returning Move In Day)
New and returning student living in Mansion Hill apartments will be moving in on this day. As these students move onto campus, we are seeking volunteers to help serve as Welcome Crew members. This opportunity would allow you to mingle and assist by unloading, and carrying boxes to the returning students rooms.
(Friday, August 18, 2017 at Oak and Villa Residence Halls---New Students Move In Day)
New students living in Oak and Villa Residence Halls will be moving in on this day. As these new students move into their new home, we are seeking volunteers to help serve as Welcome Crew members. This opportunity would allow you to mingle and assist by unloading, and carrying boxes to the new student’s rooms.
(Saturday, August 19, 2017 at Oak and Villa Residence Hall---Returning Students Move In Day)
Returning student living in Oak Residence Hall will be moving in on this day. As these returning students move back onto campus, we are seeking volunteers to help serve as Welcome Crew members. This opportunity would allow you to mingle and assist by unloading, and carrying boxes to the returning students rooms.
SERENDIPITY SENDOFF FALL SEMESTER
(2018 date/time coming soon; Meet in front of Thomas Jefferson Library)
The Serendipity Sendoff will welcome new students to the Triton family and officially kickoff the new academic year. We are looking for volunteers including current students, faculty, staff, and alumni to line the pathway leading from the Millennium Student Center to the Alumni Circle just south of the Thomas Jefferson Library. The Serendipity Sendoff will include a ceremonial passing of the torch to the incoming class. Serendipity which means “good fortune” is to represent this new journey. Immediately following, the Welcome Picnic will begin at the Millennium Student Center.
HELP-A-TRITON (FALL & SPRING)
FALL: (Monday, August 20, 2018 and Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at 8:00 am – 4:00 pm, various locations around campus)
SPRING: (Tuesday, January 16, 2018 and Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at 8:00 am-4:00 pm, various locations around campus)
Help-A-Triton is here for you! Students, faculty, and staff from all over campus spend the first two days of each semester staffing Help-A-Triton tables located in high-traffic areas to assist students navigate the campus. We are seeking volunteers to staff various table locations across north and south campus to help new Tritons by passing out campus maps, assisting with questions, distributing Weeks of Welcome program booklets, and wishing them good luck as they begin their Fall semester.
INVOLVEMENT EXPO (FALL & SPRING)
(Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at 11:00 am – 1:30 pm; North Campus Quadrangle)

SHOW YOUR TRITON SPIRIT
Faculty and staff will have an opportunity to purchase a Welcome Crew t-shirt to wear during the first few days of classes. More information to come later this summer!
