Crystal Atkins

SENIOR | ANTHROPOLOGY AND FRENCH MAJOR
ST.  LOUIS, MISSOURI

Crystal Atkins loves UMSL because it is home and family to her. She grew up in St. Louis and has a lot of pride in her beautiful hometown. She believes UMSL gives her a sense of belonging, which is why Ms. Atkins continues to stay so involved in school, and it shows in her work. As a Senior Student Facilities Manager in the Millennium Student Center, she oversees student workers and instructs them on event set ups and preparations in the Millennium Student Center and sometimes the J.C. Penney Conference Center. When you do not see her walking around the MSC, she is at class seeking her double major degree in French and Anthropology; she is a fierce senior ready to face the future ahead of her.

"A Leader is not a leader unless you have followers willing to follow” is Crystal Atkin’s favorite leadership quote.  From being a student leader, Ms. Atkins learned that it is important not to take on too much and to let others help when needed. She is always excited to take on multiple tasks without taking any help, but she has learned throughout her stay at UMSL that it is usually easier, and better, to include others in getting the job done. Ms. Atkins is now more conscious about the things she facilitates on campus and rather than doing them on her own, she is an advocate of inclusion when it comes to taking part in the work.
