Welcome to UMSL!
The Office of International Studies and Programs and the Office of New Student Programs welcome all new international students to UMSL. Both of our offices work togehter to provide a smooth transition. As a new International Student beginning at UMSL, you will participate in the International Student Orientation process which is a 2-step process.
Both Orientations (Pre-Arrival Online Orientation & ISO In-Person) are MANDATORY for all new International Students to complete.
1. ONLINE ORIENTATION (Pre-Arrival)
The online orientation is an online web tutorial for newly admitted international students. If you are an undergraduate, graduate, or visiting student studying at UMSL on an F-1 or J-1 visa, you are required to complete this Online Orientation. You may complete Online Orientation on a computer or tablet.
Online Orientation consists of several sections, some of which have a quiz at the end of the section. You will be required to complete all sections and all quizzes for the orientation. All students who complete Online Orientation will receive an UMSL t-shirt at International Student Orientation on campus.
Undergradatue students, once you have confirmed your enrollment on this site, registered for Orientation and paid your confirmation fee, you will recieve directions to the online orientation.
Visiting and graduate students, once you have accepted your immigration confirmation paperwork with the International Office, you will recieve an email for the online orientation.
2. INTERNATIONAL STUDENT ORIENTATION (ISO) (In-Person on UMSL campus)
ISO is an on campus program for newly admitted international students with 24 or fewer U.S. college credit hours. Visa-holding international students are required to attend a 3-day program: 2 days of International Student Orientation and the third day is New Student Orientation. It will be held in the Millennium Student Center from Monday, January 9 - January 11, 2017 for spring admits, and Monday, August 14-16, 2017 for fall admits.
ISO will equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed at UMSL as an international student. You will meet other new international students and current students who will help you transition smoothly to life in St. Louis during the first two days. Then on the third day you will attend New Student Orientation with new students from the U.S.. Check-in begins at 8:00am on the first day. The main program will begin at 9:00am. Please make arrangements to stay on campus until 5:00pm for all three days.
On the first day of orientation, please bring your passport, I-20 or DS-2019, local St. Louis address, and emergency contact information (family or friends in the U.S. or abroad who we could contact if you have an emergency) for yourself and any dependents.
