What to Know Before You Arrive

At orientation, you will receive a lot of materials and information that will be very helpful in getting you aquainted with our campus and the people that are here to help you be academically successful. Here are some things that you can do now to prepare you for your orientation session. 

• Log into MyView This electronic form of communication allows you to access your student records at UMSL (i.e. application information, registration, financial aid, billing info, etc.). Log into MyView using your SSO ID and password. Be sure to click the button "I agree" on the e-consent page to gain full access. If you are unable to log in, please contact the Office of Admissions at 314-516-UMSL (8675).

• Activate you UMSL Email UMSL uses Windows Live as the official campus communication tool. Go to the Technology Support Center email services page to activate your account. Most of your correspondence with the University will be via email, so please check your UMSL email account often.

• Register for Orientation Once you have registered for your orientation session, you will want to make sure you are regularly checking your new UMSL e-mail. This is the e-mail address the the University will use to send you important information about orientation, housing, financial aid, and scholarships.

• Register for classes All students new to UMSL must be advised prior to registering for Spring or Fall classes. First-time freshmen and transfer students with 24 or less transferrable credit hours will need to contact their academic department for an advising appointment.
• Take the optional online Math or Language Placement Exam completing the placement exam may allow you to take a higher level math course during your first semester than your ACT/SAT scores would normally allow. It is also a good way to prepare you for college level math prior to the fall semester!

• Complete the free application for Federal Student Aid We encourage all students to apply for financial aid by submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The 2011-2012 FAFSA will be available on January 1, 2011, and the priority deadline to apply is April 1, 2011. Please contact Student Financial Aid with questions about financial aid or for more information about scholarships, loans, or grants at (314) 516-5526. Office hours are Monday-Thursday 8:00am-6:00pm, Friday 8:00am-5:00pm
• Select a residence hall and roommate (if staying on campus this fall) Still unsure of where you want to live? Check out all of the on-campus communities and compare each residency hall to help you make your decision.
• Send AP test scores to the Office of Registrar AP exam scores may exempt you from certain course requirements. It is possible that you indicated on your AP exam paperwork that you wanted your results to be sent to the University of Missouri-St. Louis. If you did not do this, it's not too late. Call AP Services at (888) 308-0013, and they will help you get your test scores submitted.
• Submit your final high school transcript to the Office of Admissions Request that your high school principal or counselor submit your final, official high school transcript showing class rank, cumulative grade point average, and courses taken.

Confirmation Packet:

After you have registered online for your NSO date, you will recieve a confirmation email to your UMSL email account with the date. In addition, you will recieve a confirmation packet in the mail prior to your NSO session.

What to Bring

• Bring your UMSL Student ID# (8 digit number)
• College transcripts , advanced credit/ AP scores, for any dual credit courses
• Disability documentation if seeking accommodations
• Prepare to take a picture for your Triton One Card (UMSL ID)
• You must bring a form of photo ID (valid driver's license, state ID, passport) with you to obtain your Triton One Card
• Casual clothing for 90° to 100° weather
• Comfortable shoes
• Sweater (for air-conditioned rooms)
• No. 2 pencil for placement tests
• Cash or check for testing, souvenirs, textbooks, and post office box rental if a non-resident

You may park your car in LOT E during the NSO and TT programs. You will not need a parking pass for this day.  Please look for additional signage to assist with navigation around campus.

UMSL Catering will prepare two meals for Orientation participants: Breakfast and Lunch

There will be a wide variety of entrees and side orders at each meal. Vegetarian options will be available to those who indicate that preference when registering for orientation.  If you have other dietary needs, please note these in the accommodations section of your registration.
