"I love UMSL because it has provided me with so many wonderful opportunities that I would not have gotten at other schools. The smaller campus means I have been able to get involved in a lot of different aspects of campus, and I've gotten to know people that I probably would never have met at a larger university. There also so many things you can do off campus because UMSL is in a city like St. Louis. No matter what day it is, you can be sure to find something to do somewhere in the city!"
Briana feels that her college experience would not have been the same if she had chosen to attend a different school. She loves UMSL because of the combination of a small, close-knit campus community inside a large city. UMSL gave her the chance to be a part of so many different aspects of campus and the chance to meet many people that she never would have seen at a larger school.
Briana first learned about all of the ways to get involved on campus when she completed the Emerging Leaders programs during her freshman year. There, she was able to reach out to student leaders and learn more about their organizations. She became a member of the University Program Board, where she worked as a Programs Chair and joined a sorority on campus. Briana will be a Recruitment Coach this fall with the Panhellenic Association, and she will also be serving as the Vice President of the Student Government Association. She is currently the Weeks of Welcome Student Coordinator for New Student Programs as well.
Through her involvement, Briana has learned that you will always find things that you don’t like, no matter what situation you are in. However, she believes that there is very little that cannot be changed if you really choose to. Because of this, her favorite leadership quote is “The problem is not the problem. The problem is your attitude about the problem.” -Captain Jack Sparrow
