M-7: Adolphus Benedict Scrapbook Collection

HISTORY: Adolphus Benedict was a journalist who lived and worked throughout the Civil War and Gilded Age. At one time he lived in Missouri, but not much is known about him. These scrapbooks contain some his own newspaper articles and editorials. The volumes were an early donation to the Mercantile Library.

SCOPE: The scrapbooks contain clippings of various news and topics of the day from newspapers from around the United States, including St. Louis, Missouri, and cover the years 1854-1883. Some have notations indicating an article written by Benedict. Two letters are interleaved. Volume 3 contains mostly Civil War articles.

HOLDINGS: 7 boxes containing 10 bound volumes of scrapbooks

ACCESS: Some of the material in Special Collection M-7 may be photocopied, digitally scanned or photographed, subject to condition.
