Plan Your Visit



The reading room for rare books and archival materials is open from 12:30 to 4:00 p.m. on Mondays and 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday.  The rest of the Mercantile Library, including the exhibitions, are available during all open hours of the Thomas Jefferson Library building. Fall semester hours are Monday - Thursday 7:30 am - 10:30 pm, Friday 7:30 am to 5:00 pm, Saturday 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, and Sunday 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Please note that hours vary with semester. The Mercantile Library is located in the Thomas Jefferson Library building on the UMSL North Campus, easily accessible from highway 70 via Natural Bridge Road or Florissant Road and by Metrolink. Get driving directions here or Metrolink directions here.


Get more out of your visit to the Mercantile Library visit with a free, docent-led tour, every Saturday at 11:00 am and every Sunday at 2:00 pm.  No reservations are necessary for this public tour, so feel free to bring a friend and have your photo taken with our Mercantile Library STL250 Cake!  Free group tours can also be arranged for other times; please call Amanda Schneider at 314-516-7248 or email for more information.
