Karasek studied at Washington University School of Fine Arts as well as with John Heller, a well-known St. Louis painter and has worked in and around St. Louis for many years. Throughout his career, Karasek has been consistently fascinated with the landscape, both its grandeur and its involvement with man.

He frequently painted the city's landmarks, both historic and contemporary.  In Lafayette Square, the colorful buildings catch the viewer's eye and dominate the composition, but it is the figures standing on the porches and sidewalks and the man jogging along the path that give scale and energy to the scene.
