HISTORY: This collection of early twentieth-century photographs were printed by Dick Lemen from negatives in the collection of Dr. William G. Swekosky. The prints, given by Mr. Lemen to the Mercantile Library over a twenty-year period, were officially donated in the 1980s
SCOPE: The photographs, taken originally by city photographer Charles Clement Holt (1866-1925) and his staff during the first two decades of the twentieth century, show daily life in the bustling metropolis of St. Louis from a street-level perspective. Many locations are identified on verso.
HOLDINGS: 1 print box of approximately 400 photographic prints
ACCESS: Some of the material in Special Collection M-170 may be photocopied, digitally scanned or photographed, subject to condition.
Currently these images are being digitized in partnership with Virtually Missouri.
