HISTORY: The Model Cities Association program worked to promote community revitalization through awareness and assessment concerning such issues as improved housing, employment, recreation and other factors crucial to the improvement of the quality of urban life. The program existed in many large American urban centers, St. Louis having a particularly active bureau. The archives for St. Louis were transferred to the Mercantile Library in 1992.

SCOPE: The collection spans the entire history of the St. Louis MCA, in the 1950s and 1960s especially, and covers in detail the broad range of urban policy issues that were intended to facilitate civic improvement through its endeavors and advocacy.
