M-92: Thomas, James S.

 

HISTORY: James S. Thomas (1802-1874) was a banker, Union sympathizer during the American Civil War, and Mayor of St. Louis, elected in 1864 for three terms. These scrapbooks were given by Thomas, himself, to the Mercantile Library.

SCOPE: The collection covers the years 1864 to 1874 and consists of scrapbooks of clippings from St. Louis newspapers. Some have an alphabetical list of articles with page numbers.

HOLDINGS: 17 scrapbooks

ACCESS: Some of the material in Special Collection M-92 may be photocopied, digitally scanned or photographed, subject to condition.
