The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) EPSCoR Missouri program recently awarded Dr. Pan a Research Infrastructure Development (RID) grant to investigate the Delay and Bandwidth Constrained Dynamic Resource Provisioning Method in a NFV/SDN Edge Cloud for Internet of Things (IoT) Applications.
With this grant, Dr. Pan will be able to develop connection and work with NASA scientists on research topics that align with NASA's priorities of technology development for Cloud Computing and Internet of Things (IoT) to expand the range of useful applications and solutions supporting needs in energy constrained environments.
Dr. Pan says that the new framework, components, core methods and algorithms will optimize the resource provisioning of IoT applications in distributed edge cloud. The new model and algorithms will address multiple optimization objectives including cost, delay, bandwidth, and battery consumption in various big data scenarios of IoT applications. Potential new findings can be used in NASA’s research interests in battery-constrained space-exploring vehicles working in environments with delay, bandwidth, and energy restrictions.
