Help with Summon
What is Summon?
Summon is an easy to use, fast library search engine that helps you discover relevant, reliable information on any topic from the University of Missouri – St. Louis Libraries’ collections. It is the place to start your research in scholarly journals, books and more. From your search results, it is one step to the full text of articles or online books, and you can see if a book or journal is on the shelf.
What is in Summon?
Your search results include links to: UMSL Library Catalog records; online and print journal, magazine and newspaper articles; print and online books; U.S. government documents; database citations; institutional repositories; conference proceedings; reports; dissertations, and more. More content is being added regularly.
Summon searches most, but not all of our resources. Use our specialized databases or consult with our Reference Librarians if you do not find what you need or for a more comprehensive search.
How do I use Summon?
Use the single search box to start and then “Refine your search” using the options on the left, such as limiting to scholarly, peer-reviewed journals; content type; subject; date or UMSL library location. Results from a Summon search are based on relevancy; even inexperienced researchers can quickly and easily access library resources. For a more specific search, by author or publication title for example, use the Advanced Search option. See the Help link for more search tips.
