Interdisciplinary Studies

The self-defined Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies is an individualized major program.  A student plans his or her own area of intellectual focus (Area of Study) with the help of the Interdisciplinary Studies Advisor and approval from the BIS Faculty Committee.  Thus, the program allows students to design their majors, in an interdisciplinary area that does not exist as a current degree at the University.  A BIS degree may include an existing UMSL Certificate program.  Interdisciplinary Studies students have designed individualized majors in areas as varied as gender studies, gerontology, international studies, diversity studies, environmental studies, advertising, public relations, nonprofit management, employee training and development, exercise science, radio and television, trauma studies, and more.
