International Business Career Conference 2015

"Passport to Success

Early Friday morning, on March 6th, 2015, students from all over the Midwest headed to UM - St. Louis' J.C. Penney building to attend the 7th annual International Business Career Conference. They should not be disappointed. After a warm welcome from the Director of the International Business Institute, Dr. Joseph Rottman, the keynote address was held by Betsy Cohen, the Executive Director of the St. Louis Mosaic Project. Miss Cohen pointed out the importance of international experience in today's fast moving world and gave insight into her own international business experience she had with her former employer Nestle Purina. After this motivating and eye-opening speech, students had the first opportunity to pose questions regarding their own future international business career. Click here for the full program.

Shortly after this, the next big part of the career started: Six workshops, held by executives from well-known St. Louis companies, that are acting internationally. Students could choose two out of the six workshops, addressing topics like "Social Media's Global Reach", "Closing the Deal: Being Culturally Flexible" and "Becoming an International Entrepreneur", to find what best fit their current needs. In short Q&A sessions after each workshop, they could ask high-ranked representatives what they always wanted to know about international business.

At lunch there was a chance to network with well-know companies from the region, enjoying a delicious variety of food sponsored by local restaurants. Alternatively, students could participate in the Lunch & Learn, learning about "Global Sustainability in Business".

The conference closed with an outstanding executive panel. The four panelists discussed their path to success, gave advise, and answered students' questions afterwards.

The IBCC 2015 truly offered everyone the chance to collect some stamps in their "Passport to Success".
