On March 19, 2010, International Business Honor Society hosted its second annual International Business Career Conference(IBCC), “From Graduation to Globalization.” Like its predecessor, this conference was designed to allow students the opportunity to connect with professionals who can give them a clearer picture of the types of career opportunities available in international business and the paths to obtain them as well as what to expect from an international business career.
The 2010 IBCC featured keynote speaker Richard C.D. Fleming, President & CEO of the St. Louis Regional Chamber and Growth Association. Mr. Fleming spoke about the growth in international trade in the St. Louis region, and the efforts to bring the ‘China hub’ to St. Louis.
The 30 minute workshops were led by successful business professionals who shared their knowledge about how to prepare for a career in international business. Discussions focused on working in the non-profit sector, working abroad with the government, interning with international companies, marketing opportunities, cultural challenges, and legal issues. Over 200 students from over 12 universities across the region attended the conference. They were treated to lunch prepared by The University of Missouri - Saint Louis international student organizations, and enjoyed music provided by the UMSL Music Department.
The success of this conference is due in large part to our sponsors. Many great companies gave contributions and sent representatives without which the conference would not have happened. So thank you to: Boeing, Scottrade, JCI, Express Scripts, Consolidated Graphics, Edward Jones, LangLearner, Hackett Security, and many more.
For a sample of what our students thought about the program, here are a few of their comments:
“Before this I had no idea what options I had available to me with my International Business degree but now I am aware that the possibilities are almost endless. This conference gave me a new found confidence I my degree.”
“The conference was awesome! The workshop helped me made up my mind about what I should do and I also learned how to do it a little more easily. As an international student, I want to be involved in the International Business field, and this conference has made me excited about my future prospects in International Business.”
