In February 2009, the International Business Honor Society hosted its first Career Conference, “Launching Tomorrow’s Leaders.” The International Business Career Conference (IBCC) was designed to help students discover international opportunities and give them the chance to interact and gain insight from employers across the area. This unique event featured a panel discussion, a keynote address and multiple workshops.
The IBCC featured keynote speaker Steve Burrows. Steve Burrows, recently retired CEO of Asia Pacific Operations for Anheuser Busch, educated students on how to differentiate themselves in the competitive job market as they prepared themselves for graduation.
The 30 minute workshops were hosted by successful business partners who shared their knowledge on how to prepare for a career in international business. Discussions focused on studying abroad, international internships, and opportunities working for the government.
Over 170 students from across the region attended the conference representing universities including but not limited to: UMSL, SLU, Westminster, Lindenwood, SIUE, Fontbonne, Missouri State, and Illinois State. The IBCC was a hit!
The success of this conference is in many parts due to our sponsors. Many great companies gave contributions without which the conference would not have happened. So thank you to: Anheuser Busch, Express Scripts, Boeing, State Farm, and many more.
Most importantly, here’s what a couple students thought about the IBCC:
“Before this I had no idea what options I had available to me with my International Business degree but now I am aware that the possibilities are almost endless. This conference gave me a new found confidence in my degree.”
“Very educational…motivate[d] me to be as successful as the guest speakers.”
