Raymond
I. Myers, O.D.
Clinical Professor of Optometry
Dr. Raymond
Myers is Associate Clinical Professor of the University of Missouri-St.
Louis. His research interests include contact lenses, refractive
surgery, and the concerns of optometric students. As the
first president and co-founder of the American Optometric Student
Association, he has studied the financial indebtedness of optometry
students as well as grading methods. He is presently concerned
with
innovative techniques of refractive surgery for the correction
of refractive errors and cataract retardation. He has also published
various articles on the properties of contact lenses including
fitting
characteristics, flexure, and lens deposits and buildup.
He is also a co- founder of the International Society for Contact
Lens Research and for the Annual Materials Science Symposia in
Contact Lenses, held now in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Dr. Myers is co-founder and treasurer of the Gateway Lions &
Partners, a partnership among major university and Lions organizations,
to provide a safety net in eye care among Metro-St. Louis citizens.
Dr. Myers received
his degrees from the University of Notre Dame and Indiana University,
and did a post graduate research fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital
in London. He has been in private practice, the contact lens industry,
and has been on the medical staffs of LSU Eye Center in New Orleans
and Washington University in St. Louis as well as the UM-St. Louis
College of Optometry.
