Keshia Elder, O.D., M.S., F.A.A.O. Associate Clinical Professor
Dr. Keshia Elder is originally from Columbia, South Carolina
and graduated from Clemson University in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science degree
in Science Teaching: Mathematics. While attending the University of Alabama at Birmingham
School of Optometry, Dr. Elder received a Health Professions Scholarship from
the United States Navy. She graduated from UAB in 1998 with her Doctorate of
Optometry and her Master of Science in Vision Science. After graduation, Dr. Elder served five
years in the Medical Service Corps in the United States Navy.
Dr. Elder has
held several academic positions prior to joining the faculty at the University
of Missouri at St. Louis College of Optometry. At the UMSL College of Optometry, Dr. Elder teaches in the
Foundations of Ocular and Systemic Disease and Management Course. In
addition, she is an attending at several community clinics. Dr. Elder’s research interests include ocular
manifestations of autoimmune disorders, the effect of various contact lens
materials and corneal surgeries on dry eye syndrome and health disparities
related to primary eye care.
Dr. Elder serves as the faculty advisor for the Gold Key
Honor Society. She is a member of the
Admittance Committee and Education Quality Assurance Committee for the American
Academy of Optometry and serves on the editorial board for Optometric
Education.
