College of Nursing Graduate Receives Distinguished Alumni Award
Gloria
P. Metzger, a member of the first graduating class of the College of
Nursing (1958), was one of six recipients of the UM St. Louis Distinguished
Alumni Award at a gala dinner on September 19 at the Ritz
Carlton Hotel, St. Louis. Ms. Metzger began her career in 1958 as a staff
nurse at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis. She worked for the University
of
Missouri Medical Center in Columbia and for Vanderbilt University Hospital
in Nashville, Tennessee. For more than 20 years, the Missouri
Hospital Association has employed Ms. Metzger, most recently as vice
president
of clinical and professional advocacy. In 1998, Governor Carnahan presented
her with the Governor's award for Quality and Productivity for her
efforts
with the Community Outreach Initiative. In 1999, she attended the first
White House Conference on Mental Health in Washington chaired by Tipper
Gore, mental health policy advisor to President Clinton. Ms. Metzger
lives in Jefferson City.
