Curriculum and Transfer information
Curriculum:
The College of Nursing recognizes Registered Nurses as adult learners who are licenses professionals with years of experience. The program does not repeat courses completed as part of a basic associate degree or diploma nursing program.
The RN to BSN curriculum encompasses concepts of health assesment, family health, community health, research, leadership, and health promotion with community-based, independent clinical activities. General education requirements are met through a strong liberal arts component including studies beyond the sciences, so RNs are well-prepared for advancement in the nursing profession.
Transfer Credits:
The Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree requires 120 credit hours. RN to BSN students may transfer general education credit hours from community colleges and other accredited colleges and universities. Students are awarded 39 credit hours for their associate and diploma nursing courses after completing the first nursing course at UMSL. In addition, students may transfer selected general education credit hours from community colleges and universities they have attended.
