FACULTY RESPONSIBILITIES

Because faculty members teach across programs, faculty are expected to attend and actively participate in all program meetings that encompass assigned teaching responsibilities.

Faculty Association: Faculty Association meetings are held a minimum of three times during the academic year. Full-time faculty members are expected to actively participate in all meetings. Attendance by adjunct faculty is not required but is encouraged.

Standing Faculty Association Committees: The College’s work related to curriculum, students and evaluation are carried out through committee structure. Full-time faculty members are elected to committee responsibilities each year.

Administrative Committees:  The College’s administrative committees meet as specified in the Administrative policies and procedures to coordinate specific aspects of College work.

Faculty Meetings:  The Dean convenes faculty meetings at least once each semester to discuss academic topics of general College concern with faculty and staff members.  Faculty are expected to attend and actively participate in faculty meetings.

Ad Hoc Groups or Task Forces:  From time to time, the Dean, Associate Deans, Directors or Coordinators, or the Faculty Association may need to convene time limited ad hoc groups or task forces to address specific issues.

Campus

Faculty may be nominated and elected to represent nursing’s interests on Chancellor-appointed, University Senate and/or Graduate School committees. Specific Senate and Graduate Council Committees may be found here and here.

A University faculty meeting is scheduled by the Provost each semester during the academic year. All University faculty members are encouraged to attend.

Celebration of graduation is an integral responsibility of all full-time faculty members. Graduation is held at the conclusion of each academic period. All full-time faculty members are expected to participate in a minimum of one official graduation ceremony annually. Sign-up sheets are in Rms. 218 and 153.

System

The MSN, DNP, and PhD programs are cooperative ventures with the School of Nursing at UMKC and the School of Nursing at UMC.  Meetings may be convened by any of the three schools in the system to address issues of mutual interest and to ensure continued availability of opportunities to collaborate.

Faculty members also may be elected to selected standing committees or appointed to task forces within the system.
