Admissions Criteria for the RN to BSN Program
Preclinical Track Admission Criteria for all BSN Options (Traditional full-time and part-time, Accelerated and RN to BSN)
All applicants to the nursing major at UMSL must first be admitted to the preclinical track. Admission to the preclinical track does not guarantee enrollment in the clinical track. To be considered for the nursing major, students must meet the following admission criteria:
First-time freshmen and applicants with fewer than 24 transferable college credit hours:
- Admissible to UMSL (freshman admission criteria can be found at umsl.edu/admissions/requirements)
Transfer Admission Criteria (24 or more transferable hours):
- Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA on 24 or more transferable college credit hours from an accredited college or university. GPA is calculated on all attempts of all transferable courses
Clinical Track Admission Criteria for RN to BSN Program
- Admission to the University
- Graduation from a State Board approved and nationally accredited (NLN) associate or diploma nursing program
- Evidence of current licensure as a registered nurse, with eligibility for licensure in Missouri*
- Cumulative GPA of 2.5, calculated on all attempts of all transferable college-level coursework
- Completion of a minimum of 30 transferable college credit hours
- Validation/verification of basic nursing knowledge
Spaces are awarded to qualified applicants on a first-to-enroll basis. There is no application deadline; however, spaces are limited.
*Provisional acceptance for first semester pending NCLEX results.
