The UMSL College of Nursing was established in 1981 with the initiation of a BSN completion program. A full BSN program including an accelerated option for non-nurses, MSN programs and academic and professional doctoral programs were established by 2000. UMSL is the only public institution in the St. Louis metropolitan area that offers baccalaureate through doctoral nursing education. The College enjoys a mutually beneficial relationship with the regions health services providers our community of interest.
The undergraduate nursing programs are constituents of the National Student Nurses Association providing students an opportunity to participate with the nursing profession prior to licensure. The Nu Chi Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International was established in 1994 and we participate in Sigma Xi, an academic honor for many years. The APN plans of study in the MSN program are also accredited by the national certification organizations.
The BSN, MSN, and DNP programs are fully accredited by the Commission for Collegiate Nursing Education, the nationally recognized accrediting body for baccalaureate and higher degree programs; and the prelicensure BSN program is approved by the Missouri Board of Nursing. UMSL is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of North Central Association.
The policies of the College of Nursing comply with the Collected Rules of the Curators of the University of Missouri.
