Accreditation
UMSL is fully accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges
and Schools. The Baccalaureate
(BSN) and Master's (MSN) degree programs of the College of Nursing
are fully accredited by Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education until
2020. The Baccalaureate program is also fully approved by the Missouri State
Board of Nursing. The Doctor of Nursing Practice degree program is fully accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education until 2015.
The Baccalaureate
nursing program at the UMSL College of Nursing
was initially accredited by the National League for Nursing in the fall
of 1983, retroactive to the first graduating class. At that time, the College of Nursing sponsored only a post-licensure (RN to BSN) program.
In 1992 the NLN accreditation was extended to the Master's program. Following
the merger in 1994 of the University of Missouri-St. Louis and the College
of Nursing, the prelicensure track of the Baccalaureate program
was accredited by both the NLN and the Missouri State Board of Nursing
(MSBON). The MSBON approval ensures that graduates of the prelicensure
track of the Baccalaureate program are eligible to take the registered
nurse licensure examination (NCLEX-RN). In 1998, the Baccalaureate and
Master's nursing programs received preliminary accreditation from the
Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Full accreditation
of both programs was granted by CCNE in 2000 and again in 2010. In addition to programmatic
accreditation, the pediatric nurse practitioner option is recognized
by
the Pediatric Nursing Certificate Board through 2014.
The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Nursing program is not accredited
by an external accrediting agency since doctoral nursing programs in
the
United States are not separately accredited. The DNP program received full initial accreditation by CCNE in 2010.
