Martin Rochester
Martin Rochester is
Professor Political Science and a Fellow in the Center for International
Studies at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, where he has taught
since 1972, after receiving his Ph.D. degree in political science
from Syracuse University. In addition to teaching courses in international politics, international
organization and law, and US foreign policy, Professor Rochester
has served as chairperson of the Political Science Department at
UM-St. Louis. He has authored several books and monographs,
including Waiting for the Millennium: The United Nations and the Future of World Order and Between Two Epochs: What’s
Ahead for America, the World, and Global Politics in the 21st Century?
Aside from his international relations interests,
Professor Rochester has had an active interest in pedagogical concerns,
including both higher education and k-12. He was one of the founders of the Consortium for International
Studies Education and was project director of CISE’s International
Studies Learning Package project funded by the National Science
Foundation, which was designed to develop and disseminate innovative
undergraduate materials combining the latest advances in both scholarly
research and instructional technology. His international relations textbook, The Global Condition,
has been used in many countries and at hundreds of universities. His latest book, Class Warfare, is an
analysis of the conflicts currently experienced nationwide in American
schooling. He is the recipient
of the Chancellor’s Award forExcellence in Teaching at UM-St. Louis,
and in 2001 was named a Distinguished Teaching Professor by the
Board of Curators of the University of Missouri.
